Science Team Meeting First Alert

November 4, 2004

We are planning for the first Annual Science Team Meeting of our reconfigured Atmospheric Science Program, to be held tentatively January 25-27, 2005, at a location to be specified, on the east coast. We urge everyone who has received or will receive funding from ASP to reserve these dates. We will try to firm up the meeting venue and some details shortly, as soon as we have a confirmed hotel and meeting space.

32 of the 36 science project funding packages have been submitted to DOE management. All of the DOE laboratory science projects have start dates of October 1st. All of the non-DOE laboratory science projects are expected to have start dates of January 1st. The tentative meeting dates of January 25-27th were selected as the earliest feasible dates without apparent major conflicts. The meeting is expected to begin early on the 25th and conclude at mid-day on the 27th.

Tentative Outline of the Science Team Meeting:

Introduction and Overview by ASP Program Director ( Peter Lunn )
          Keynote Presentation ( tbd )
Scientific Vision by ASP Chief Scientist ( Steve Schwartz )
Modeling Session ( Chair- Steve Ghan )
Brief presentations on science team projects
Instrument Development and Laboratory Measurements Session ( Chair- Jeff Gaffney )
Brief presentations on science team projects
Field Measurements Session ( Chair- Pete Daum )
                    Presentations on Field Study Opportunities
                    Brief presentations on infrastructure projects
Brief presentations on science team projects
Brief Working Group Meetings in Parallel
          Reports from Working Group Meetings

The three component sessions will be held consecutively and we encourage all investigators to participate in all three sessions.

Among the objectives of this meeting:

          Formation of Working Groups
Formation of Science Team Steering Committee
Agreement of Priorities for Field Studies in 2005 and 2006
and Preliminary Planning for these Field Studies
Agreement of Program Deliverables and Means to Achievement

We welcome nominations from science team members for members to serve on the ASP Science Steering Committee, including self-nominations. The Committee will help establish deliverables and priorities, including priorities for field deployments, and help guide the implementation of the Program. Please provide any nominations to me by email, prior to the Science Team Meeting.
